The fifth vintage from this vineyard was organically farmed by Steve Matthiasson. The CCOF-certified Chardonnay from Linda Vista Vineyard, located in the cool climate of Oak Knoll, thrived during one of the coolest harvest seasons in wine country history. This allowed the authentic traits of the old Olmo clone to shine through. The grapes were harvested on September 29, gently pressed, and then barrel fermented. Aged for nine months in French barrels using the sur lie method. It features a nose of clove, Granny Smith apple, and grapefruit flavors, culminating in a refreshing finish with juicy citrus acidity and beautifully integrated elegance.s.
The second vintage of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from Buf-Wehr Ranch, organically farmed by Chris and Maureen. This young Pommard Clone thrived wonderfully, benefiting from sufficient moisture in the soil. The cool climate facilitated even ripening of the phenolics and retained fresh acidity and fruit character. One ton of grapes was harvested on 9/22 and transported to the winery, with 40% being destemmed and fermented using indigenous yeast, then aged in neutral barrels. The resulting wine showcases flavors of red cherries, an aromatic bouquet of sage and thyme, and a silky tannin structure, exemplifying another outstanding year for fine Russian River Pinot Noir.
Six Cloves presents its second Zinfandel sourced from CCOF-certified Castanon Vineyards, nestled in Redwood Valley, Mendocino. This 7.5-acre plot, cultivated by Jose and his wife, boasts rich red soil and breathtaking views of the valley. The cool growing season allowed the grapes to mature slowly, resulting in complex flavors and vibrant fruit characteristics. The fermentation process included 25% whole cluster, followed by 9 months of aging in neutral French oak. This Claret-style Zinfandel offers enticing aromas of sweet cinnamon, alongside flavors of raspberry and red plum, complemented by a firm tannin structure and a refreshing medium finish.
